The Kanbar Forum

Summer 2013 brings a brand new multidisciplinary theater to Exploratorium that will be outfitted with cutting-edge acoustics and state-of-the-art seating. This will be one of the Bay Area’s top venues to see live music, films, lectures, and special events.

What is the Tactile Dome?

Embark on an interactive journey in total darkness where your hands lead the way. You’ll walk, slide, and crawl your way through this mazelike experience where you’ll encounter a wide range of textures that can only be discovered through touch. You’ll enter the geodesic dome for a one hour adventure unlike anything you’ve ever experienced.

What engineering details are incorporated into Pier 15 for earthquakes?

Special seismic design details were included in the construction of the new location at Pier 15 to help the Exploratorium withstand earthquakes. Massive steel pilings and expansion joints on both land and sea have created a modern marvel of engineering to keep this treasured San Francisco attraction standing for years to come.
