Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco

With its beautiful Art Deco style, iconic orange towers, and sweeping cables across San Francisco Bay, the Golden Gate Bridge is a marvel of modern engineering and one of the most spectacular bridges in the world. Connecting the the northern tip of San Francisco to the Marin Headlands, the Golden Gate Bridge - a stunning symbol of San Francisco - is 1.7 miles long and spans 4,200 feet across the Bay. Drive, bike or walk across the Golden Gate Bridge to enjoy jaw-dropping views of Downtown, San Francisco Bay and the entire Bay Area Bay Area, including Angel Island and Alcatraz. The Golden Gate Bridge celebrated its 75th anniversary in May 2012.

Bridge Pavilion for 75th Anniversary

Built for the 75th Anniversary, the new Bridge Pavilion is a center dedicated to the history of the Golden Gate Bridge. The Pavilion features historic exhibits, memorabilia, commemorative and interpretive merchandise, overlooks, and offers orientation and information services that help you learn about this iconic suspension bridge. Shop for souvenirs and gifts and check out the original 12-foot stainless steel Bridge "test tower" used in 1933. You can also learn about the Bridge’s science and engineering through hands-on exhibits just outside the Pavilion. Swing the Bridge Café for delicious food and sublime views.

Hiking & Biking Trails

Cycle or hike across the Golden Gate Bridge to the picturesque trails and vista points throughout the Golden Gate National Park. Explore miles of hiking and biking trails in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, including Crissy Field, Fort Point, and the Presidio. Cross the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin Headlands, Muir Woods and Beach and the Coastal Trail. A cool biking and walking trail takes you from Crissy Field/Fort Point and up a short climb to the south parking lot of the bridge.

Is there a toll to drive across the bridge?


Yes. The Golden Gate Bridge collects a toll in the southbound direction into San Francisco. The Golden Gate Bridge Toll is $6 for cars and motorcycles and $5 for the FasTrak Toll. Carpool vehicles pay a $3 toll from 5 -9 am and 4 - 6 pm on weekdays. To use the FasTrak electronic toll system, you can purchase a tag at www.bayareafastrak.org.

Is it free to walk and drive across the bridge?


Yes! The Golden Gate Bridge is one of the most beautiful walks and bike rides on the planet. Experience the thrill of biking across the bridge, or enjoy a relaxing half-hour walk that lets you feel the dramatic atmosphere and take in views of Downtown and the San Francisco Bay. Cyclists can ride free on the East and West sidewalks 24 hours a day. Pedestrians can walk for free on the East Sidewalk facing San Francisco from 5 am to 6:30 pm.
